Blickpunkt Potsdamer Platz

Mit der Filmreihe „Blickpunkt Potsdamer Platz“ präsentiert das Kino Arsenal dokumentarische, persönliche und essayistische Sichtweisen auf die Mitte Berlins. Gezeigt werden Filmklassiker wie Walter Ruttmanns Stummfilm BERLIN. DIE SINFONIE DER GROSSSTADT von 1927, der 80er Jahre Avantgarde-Film OKAY OKAY. DER MODERNE TANZ von Heiner Mühlenbrock und Christoph Dreher bis hin zu Filmdokumenten aus der Bauphase des Potsdamer Platzes in den 90er Jahren wie Hito Steyerls DIE LEERE MITTE. Die Programme werden durch Kurzfilme ergänzt, die den Schauplatz aus ungewöhnlicher Perspektive zeigen.

„Blickpunkt Potsdamer Platz“ – das sind atmosphärisch dichte Zustandsbeschreibungen einer Stadt, ihrer Menschen, ihrer Architektur, die wie keine andere Stadt in Deutschland durch die Geschichte geprägt wurden.

Zentrum einer Metropole, Trümmergrundstück, Mauerstreifen, Niemandsland, Großbaustelle, Touristenattraktion – 100 Jahre Geschichte am Potsdamer Platz haben Spuren hinterlassen. Jeweils donnerstags bis sonntags um 17 Uhr zeigen wir Filme, die in ihrer ästhetischen wie inhaltlichen Vielfalt atmosphärisch dichte Zustandsbeschreibungen einer Stadt im Wandel der Geschichte sind.

From Thursdays through Sundays at five pm, we'll be screening films that, through the variety in their aesthetics and content, are atmospherically dense descriptions of a city caught in the vicissitudes of history.

On the periphery of a magically charged Potsdamer Platz, in a Berlin that is recognizable yet ghostly, the paths of three women cross, who allow themselves to be temporarily seduced by the possibility of experiencing closeness. Followed by: MY BARRIO (Niklas Goldbach, G 2005), an exploration of the new architecture and urban planning around Potsdamer Platz and the government district.

OKAY OKAY. DER MODERNE TANZ/ OKAY OKAY. THE MODERN DANCE (Christoph Dreher, Heiner Mühlenbrock, W. Germany 1980, 15 & 29.11.) Post-apocalyptic urban landscapes: songs by bands like Pere Ubu, the Residents, Wire and Throbbing Gristle are combined with images of deserted human constructions such as garbage dumps, parking garages and industrial areas. The camera skims along the facades of modern apartment and office blocks and makes factory chimneys and cooling towers dance. Germany 1980, Jan. 10 & 24) Post-apocalyptic urban landscapes: songs by bands like Pere Ubu, the Residents, Wire and Throbbing Gristle are combined with images of deserted human constructions such as garbage dumps, parking garages and industrial areas. The camera skims along the facades of modern apartment and office blocks and makes factory chimneys and cooling towers dance. Bruno Ganz and Otto Sander move through Berlin, listen to people's thoughts and wander through the eras that lie in layers upon Berlin. BERLIN. DIE SINFONIE DER GROSSTADT (Walter Ruttmann, D 1927, 1.2.) Das Tableau eines Tages in einer Großstadt, eine Komposition aus Bewegung und Licht, die ebenso ein historisches Dokument wie ein filmisches Experiment ist. DIE LEERE MITTE (Hito Steyerl, D 1998, 19.2.): Zwischen 1990 und 1998 entsteht am Potsdamer Platz allmählich ein Hauptquartier internationaler Konzerne. Der Film geht den architektonischen und politischen Veränderungen und ihren Auswirkungen auf die Menschen nach, die hier arbeiten. Der stilisiert komponierte Spielfilm ermöglicht eine Sightseeing-Tour durch Berlin, ein Erkunden der Topografie der Stadt anhand einer besonderen Route: Die namenlose Reisende, die am Flughafen Tegel ankommt, möchte hier nur ungestört ihrer Passion, dem Trinken, nachgehen.

Germany 1979, Feb. 26) Composed in a stylized manner, this film provides a sightseeing tour through Berlin, an exploration of the city's topography by means of a particular route: the nameless woman who arrives at Tegel Airport wants only to be left alone to pursue her passion, which is drinking.

BERLIN BABYLON (Hubertus Siegert, G 2001, Feb. 27) A city between demolition and reconstruction, old and new, past and future: a documentary about the unique rebuilding of Berlin's landscape after the fall of the Berlin Wall, and the rapid speed with which the vacancy in Berlin's new center is filled.
